Company History

Gloucester Quays is owned and managed by The Peel Group and is one of the largest mixed use waterside regeneration developments in the UK.

This imaginative and visionary scheme provides an attractive environment for residents and has become a major destination for shoppers and tourists.

The colourful heritage of the Quays has been preserved and enhanced, blended with the contemporary design of the new buildings. The 60 acre, £400 million development provides over 150,000 sq.ms (1.6 million sq.ft.) of floor space.

The Peel Group

The Peel Group is one of the leading infrastructure, real estate and investment enterprises in the UK. Our diverse network of businesses ranges from ports to airports; land to leisure; media to hotels; wind farms to shopping centres, and a portfolio of investments in major public companies.

It is more than 40 years since John Whittaker established the foundations that form the company as it is now, through a philosophy of recycling capital and long term investment, predominantly in the North West of England. Between 1971 and 1987, John Whittaker acquired Peel Mills, John Bright & Brothers, Bridgewater Estates and the Manchester Ship Canal. Together they form the foundation on which Peel stands today.

Peel has and will continue to put down very strong roots by recycling capital and retaining its investments. Peel has a long-term horizon; there is no interest in quick fixes. Corporate policy is to actively manage the diverse portfolio by improving the quality of the Group’s interests and properties bringing benefits to the local areas and communities where it operates.

We invest for the long term. Regeneration and job creation is an important feature of what we do and is reflected in our track record. This long term ethos is encapsulated in our company motto - determination, perseverance and patience.
