Duck and ducklings on waterside

Community : The environment

The developers of Gloucester Quays are committed to supporting environmental projects and ensuring that developments are carried out in a manner sympathetic to the local environment.

Gloucester’s waterside setting has the potential to provide a unique environment for a wide range of wildlife, even in the heart of urban areas. The regeneration of the Gloucester Quays area will improve the distinct local waterway character of the Gloucester and Sharpness canal.

Many canals now support species and habitats that are rare elsewhere and they have become an important conservation resource. The proposed ease of access to the canals, whether by boat, foot or cycle will make the wildife easy to see.

The environment and heritage of the canals plays a major role in all British Waterways activities. They have an excellent track record in waterway conservation and management.
